Solid finish to 2016

Sarah finished the Michelin Clio Cup 3rd in the Championship after a solid final race at Silverstone.

Having had her championship hopes dashed at Anglesey, Sarah wasn't sure whether to race at the final weekend of the Clio Cup.   However, with Silverstone being her second home race (after Rockingham), not wanting to finish the season with a sour taste as left by the going-ons of Anglesey and wanting to give her hard working team, Westbourne, a better finish, she decided to do it.

So, the team worked hard to fit a new engine in readiness for testing on Friday on the Silverstone International Circuit.

Testing went well, with pretty much four seasons in one day!  The day started with a damp track and progressively got drier as the day went on but during the last session, the heavens decided to open again so it was extremely wet!  Sarah was happy with the day and had set some good times, knowing where to find more.

The last race weekend was a one-dayer with everything happening on the Saturday.  Qualifying was early on with the track still a little damp off line.  Sarah was going well, sitting in P3 until two other drivers put in quicker times at the end of the session leaving her P5 for both races.

Race 1 and, as seemed to have happened a lot this year, the heavens opened just before the Clios were due to go out!  Sarah got a great start and managed to keep with the lead pack in the difficult conditions.  Unfortunately, later in the race, Sarah the lost the back end of the car going into Vale and hit the sausage kerb on the inside causing a half spin.  Whilst she got back on it straight away, this left P3 a few seconds down the track which was simply impossible to regain leaving her to take P4.

Race 2 and the track was dry on line and still a little damp off line.  Sarah got a good start again and managed to overtake White around Club, only for him to take the place back at Stowe.  Sarah then managed to take Hirst around the outside of Stowe and hold onto P4 for the rest of the race.

Sarah reflected on the day "I was a bit disappointed with qualifying and losing P3 in the last few minutes so that put me on the back foot a little for the races.  With the whole field being just tenths apart, it's always difficult to make progress so I was quite happy to walk away with two fourth places for this final weekend and secure third in the championship."

"I want to say a massive thank you to everyone at Team Westbourne and also all of my sponsors, Campbell Nutrition, The Mobile Garage People, Flexpress, My Dish!, Aspire Financial Management and Csb Internet."

"I also want to say a huge congratulations to my fellow Westbourne teammates, especially James Dorlin who won the Clio Cup Championship, Matteo Zanetti who has provisionally won the Junior Saloon Car Championship and Sam Randon, Ben Colburn, Damian Hirst, Adam Batty and Finlay Robinson who have all done a fabulous job this year!"
